Richard B. Heyman, M.D.

Dr. Heyman grew up in New Jersey and attended college (as a music major!) and medical school at Columbia University in New York. He completed residency training in pediatrics in New York and then a fellowship in adolescent medicine in Cincinnati. He spent over 30 years on the faculty of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and has been part of Suburban Pediatrics since 1978.

He currently lives with his wife, Beth, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They have three children, five grandchildren - and two on the way! He spends his spare time playing golf and listening to the opera and is an active volunteer at “Volunteers in Medicine” Clinic in Hilton Head.

Dr. Heyman’s practice has been oriented toward adolescent issues, including concerns related to growth, puberty and sexuality, behavioral problems, school issues and alcohol and drug use. In 2009, the Cincinnati Pediatric Society recognized Dr. Heyman with its “Outstanding Community Physician” award, given annually to a local pediatrician for contributions to the welfare of children.

Dr. Heyman is a consultant to the Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free Foundation and the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse. He was recently awarded the prestigious Adele Dellenbaugh Hofmann award for 2011, which recognizes exemplary achievement in the field of adolescent health.
