“A Book A Day”

Suburban Pediatric Associates proudly presents:
A Book A Day!

Consider some common things your child does as he or she grows:
6 months: excited by picture books; tries to tough, grab and put in mouth.
9 months: enjoys "finding" games, for example "where is...?", "There it is!"
12 months: holds book with help, turns several pages at a time.
15 months: moves around and may not sit long for a story.
18 months: points to pictures and enjoys interactions during book time.
24 months: carries book around house and "reads" to others.
... and this is just the beginning.

Reading with your child is one of the most effective ways to promote your child's development and encourage positive reading habits.  Suburban Pediatric Associates has started a new program to encourage families to routinely read with their children.  In relation to this new program, please look for new additions to our waiting areas, such as shelves with a collection of books, and drop bins for book donations.  With your support, the A Book A Day program will be a great success!

How will A Book A Day at Suburban Pediatric Associates work?
Read a book from our collection while you wait; take the book with you throughout the office. If you wish, you may take the book home with you, or return it to the waiting room.  If you have books to donate, especially hardcover books, please drop them in our book donation bins, and we will share them with the children who come to Suburban Pediatric Associates.

Try to work books into your child's daily routine, such as reading stories at bedtime, and letting them see you read regularly.  Also, not all kids love books at first, so give it time. Remember you do not have to read the words... talking about the pictures and listening to your child are most important.  A Book A Day can keep the television away!
